Overview of performance characteristics

  • Database-supported administration of samplings and analysis results (with reference to data projects)
  • Import/export of results via Microsoft Excel
  • Link to the laboratory information system LISA/LIMS in Magdeburg
  • Printing labels for sample vessels
  • Maintenance of data project overriding master data

Getting started

Data management portal: First steps

Simple introduction for new users

Under the link below you will find detailed instructions on the sample component. These instructions describe all parts of the application in detail and explain any special features. The instructions provide a simple introduction even for new users:

Overview of functions

Setting up new samplings

Via the menu in the page header, you will get to the corresponding form under the item Set up sampling.

One sampling always belongs to precisely one data project. It is accordingly absolutely essential to specify the project. Place, date and sample taker must also be entered. At this point – in addition to sample classification – it is possible to provide information about the external conditions for sample taking. Wind force or relative humidity may be entered, for example, and thus recorded.

Upon saving a new sampling, a unique sample number is automatically generated which is composed of the year and a consecutive number.

The following video provides you with further information:

Addition of individual samples

Sampling always comprises one or several individual samples.

  • In the sample view, they can be defined or laid out as a sampling. The button for it is to be found in the accessible area of the respective sampling.
  • The information which may be provided about an individual sample are the time of day, the depth (for example, for water samples) and a label note.
  • As with samplings, a unique number is automatically generated when a new individual sample is set up. It is also to be deposited in the individual sample which analyses are to be performed with it.

Since the planned analyses may be very extensive and relate to several individual samples, they are allocated on the basis of so-called standard orders.

  • Via the button Set up a new analysis order, a window is opened in which all standard orders belonging to the project are listed.
  • Moreover, their items are shown and the opportunity is provided to add standard orders to the individual sample.
  • All items of the standard order are – upon its selection – applied to the individual sample.

You are now able to deselect individual items. It is possible to select any number of standard orders (even the same). For each of these order items of the individual sample, you can later deposit – via the data export/import – precisely one analysis value.

Standard orders for the definition of analyses to be performed

A standard order serves as a template for analyses which are to be made to an individual sample. For the administration of standard orders, you will need the right allowed to administer standard orders in the respective data project. A standard order comprises any number of items which each include an object of investigation, the parameter to be examined, a method and a vessel. You may select the individual item data from the data project overriding master data. Master data processing is reserved for the application administrators. However, the user may peruse the data under the menu item master data.

If you do not find any suitable entries among the master data for your analyses, please contact wkdv-datamanagement@ufz.de.

Copying data sets by means of sampling actions or runs

In order to save time when setting up repetitive samplings, you may copy data sets. This also applies for individual samples within a sampling and within sampling actions (sampling runs). A sampling action is understood as a compilation of samplings. It is assigned to a project, takes place on a specific date and may include any number of samplings. Sampling actions regularly taking place may be copied and provided with a new date. All related samplings and individual samples are also copied. Already existing analysis results are not taken over into the developing data set.

Note

A copy will only be set up in the database if the form was successfully saved.

Import and export of data

Importing and exporting analysis results may be done via files in Excel format. You will find the two options with the data management portal in the tab Sample data under the menu items Data export and Data import.
