Open Research Data

The UFZ, like other Helmholtz centers, conducts data-intensive research with internationally significant large-scale facilities as well as digital information infrastructures. This ensures a high volume of digital research data. In the thematic area of Open Research Data, the Helmholtz Open Science Office focuses on promoting coordination between the centers in the development of policies and associated practices for handling digital research data. One example is the development of platforms in the Helmholtz Incubator Information and Data Science: The Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) is developing new solutions and tools for the Helmholtz Association for dealing with metadata and related topics. Practical guidance has been developed by HMC for the application of FAIR principles in Helmholtz.

Research Data Infrastructures

An overview of research data repositories and portals with Helmholtz participation is realized with the help of re3data - Registry of Research Data Repositories by the Helmholtz Open Science Office. This registry lists over 100 Helmholtz data infrastructures that curate unique and valuable digital research data.

An overview of UFZ infrastructures is given here in the Guidelines. For example the Data Investigation Portal (DRP) of the UFZ provides the ability to publicly access and search the data managed in the Data Management Portal. The Data Management Portal (DMP) is one of the core elements at UFZ for managing, structuring, decribing and storing research data reliably.
