HIFIS - Helmholtz Federated IT Services

HIFIS fosters collaboration and facilitates integrated scientific workflows across all research fields, Helmholtz centres, external collaboration partners and Incubator platforms by offering a unified login, shared cloud services, organizing common education and training events, and adopting a de-central and modular approach. This stimulates innovation and knowledge exchange among the research centres.

It could be simply referred to as the -virtual- IT department of the Helmholtz Association.

Overviews on offered services, documentations about these services and the onboarding processes to actually use these services we shortly list in the next section, Services and Documentation. Sometimes there are still center specific requirements for the onboarding to specific services. We list these in the section UFZ specific HIFIS-related documentation.

Project management with Helmholtz-AAI

Helmholtz-AAI

The Helmholtz Authentication and Authorisation Infrastructure (AAI) has been implemented to enable seamless login to the Helmholtz Cloud Services and other resources for any Helmholtz users and invited partners from external institutions and, among others, to allow cross-institutional group management.

Documentation for Helmholtz-AAI can be found here

UFZ Specifica

A UFZ-specific workflow is necessary for using the following UFZ infrastructures:

Is it necessary to create a new project in order to be able to use it in the systems. Users can be added and/or removed from existing projects. Users can be from UFZ and from other institutions which are connected to Helmholtz-AAI.

Set up a new (data)project using WKDV Ticket system with header "set up new data project" and add one of the following templates with information about project:

Add/Remove user(s) from (data)projects using WKDV Ticket system with header "add new user to data project". Use text field to list the names and the existing project name.
