Setting up a new data project

Please check beforehand whether there is possibly already a data project which substantively meets your requirements and, if necessary, contact the relevant contact person to obtain access rights. How to find out which data projects are available already – see our FAQ.

A new data project is set up by the WKDV data management team. Please send an email to rdm-support@ufz.de and give us the following information:

(all details are required)

Description

The description should define, in the best possible way, a substantive scope of the data project. Other users of the data management portal can read this description.

Contact person

Please indicate at least 2 persons. The nominated contact persons may assign additional persons to the data project and administer the project's access rights.

POF reference

If the data project is related to a third-party funds project, we will need its 8-digit POF number.

In case of reference to a budget project of POF3/POF4, it will be sufficient to indicate the 3-digit number of the IP. You will find an overview of the POF structure at:

POF4

POF3

If you are unsure about your POF reference, pls check your situation here. You will also find the link in your SAP Fiori account (Intranet only).

Designation

New data projects will be designated according to a uniform nomenclature.

The designation of a data project with reference to a third-party funds project

POF3 -- IP no. -- IP name -- project abbreviation -- [optional free designation]

In that case, please advise us of the optional free designation, if necessary. We will take the remaining component parts from your information about the POF reference.

The data project has reference to a budget project

POF3 -- IP no. -- IP name -- [Designation of the work package] -- [optional free designation]

In that case, please advise us of the designation of the work package and of an optional free designation, if necessary.

In case of a reference to POF2

POF2 -- cluster no. -- cluster name -- project abbreviation -- [optional free designation]

Frequently asked questions about data projects (FAQ)

What are data projects?

A data project represents a specific subject and groups together the data connected with it as well as the rights. Generally, the employees assigned to a data project can add new data to the project, peruse them in detail and edit them.

If, within the data management portal, you want to exclusively peruse the data of a specific data project, select the pertinent data project in the upper left area of the page. As of that point in time, you will be in the "context" of the selected data project. If you change between the different components, the data project context is maintained.

How can I change the data project?

Click on the button in the upper left-hand area.

A search screen will appear in which you can use key words to find data projects. Leave the search field blank to find all data projects. Then click on one of the data projects found to select it:

Where can I check which data projects exist?

Proceed as described in How can I change the data project? to access the search screen in order to find data projects. Leave the search field blank to find all data projects or limit the number of hits by entering search terms.

Then click on the info button of a data project to look at its description and the staff responsible for this particular project:

How do I find out the contact persons for a data project?

The lower area of the appearing info section will list the administrators of the data project available to you as contact persons and who will be able to set up further access rights for you.
