Regulatory Frameworks and Guidelines

  • Helmholtz Recommendation: The aim of these recommendations is therefore to highlight the opportunities that AI systems offer, as well as potential risks, and recommendations for mitigating them. This should em-power all employees of the Helmholtz Association to use and develop AI systems in an in-formed, reflective and responsible manner.

  • AI and ChatGPT in Science and the Humanities – DFG Guidelines: The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has formulated initial guidelines for dealing with generative models for text and image creation.

  • EU AI Act: The European Commission has proposed the AI Act, which aims to create a legal framework for AI that emphasizes safety and fundamental rights, placing regulations on high-risk AI applications.

  • Living guidelines on the Responsible use of generative AI in Research: These guidelines focus on one particular area of AI used in the research process, namely generative Artificial Intelligence. There is an important step to prevent misuse and ensure that generative AI plays a positive role in improving research practices. One of the goals of these guidelines is that the scientific community uses this technology in a responsible manner.
